March 19, 2017 – 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Volunteers will be trained to assist with the Meet the Herd Days and spring 2017 programs.  Meet the herd day is a day for youth-at-risk, 10 years and older and their families and/or care givers, to come out and spend a fun and educational day at the farm.

During meet the herd youth will be given an introduction to self awareness as well as be encouraged to participate in on the ground equine activities. These activities include grooming, leading and tacking. Not only will they learn about how to care for their horse they will also learn horse psychology, communication through body language as well as how to get through challenging obstacles as a team.

Along with spending time with the horses, participants will be encouraged to enjoy other farm activities such as roping, horse shoes, and a hike through a part of the 100 Acres.

A quick overview of Meet the herd day with Horses Help Canada will include

  • Introduction of self awareness

  • Parts of the horse and grooming
  • Learning to be a positive leader and team mate by leading your horse through challenging but fun obstacle courses
  • Pony rides
  • Learning to rope with a real cowboy
  • Riding demonstrations
